In the seclusion of Renaissance courts like Mantua and Ferrara, music resounded not merely as a symbol of status, but as an echo of inner search. Collegium Vocale Gent brings this intimate world to life with a selection of polyphonic gems by Agostini, De Rore, De Wert, and Luzzaschi. Central to the program is Le lagrime del peccatore, the poignant work composed by Agostini in 1586 for his pupil, Duke Vincenzo I Gonzaga—a personal meditation on guilt, repentance, and the hope for grace. A haunting journey along the edges of power and mysticism, in search of the ineffable.
