Claude Debussy, the first real modern composer according to conductor Pierre Boulez, died 100 years ago. His impressionistic musical language, inspired by contemporary literature and painting, was rich, daring and highly sensitive, giving his impressions many timbres and colours. His oeuvre includes both intimate chamber music and orchestral works full of fresh enchanting harmonies. He can effortlessly evoke the eroticism of a sultry summer day, blurry cloud formations, fireworks or the call of Sirens.
