Collegium Vocale Gent starts the new year well with the Bach Academy in Bruges from 17 to 19 January with works by Mendelssohn and Bach on the program.
It is the start of an exceptional festive year: in 2020 Collegium Vocale Gent celebrates its 50th anniversary – a golden jubilee.
It is an excellent time to look ahead to numerous extra activities: a major European tour is planned in spring with both the St John and St. Matthew Passion, the signature works of Collegium Vocale Gent and artistic director Philippe Herreweghe. This will be followed by the polyphony tour, the summer festivals of Saintes, Salzburg and the Crete Senesi and a festive month in September in Ghent, our home town.
In addition to the concert schedule, there will also be extra CD editions, an exhibition, Klara Radio broadcasts, Canvas TV broadcasts, a photo book, etc. See extra appendix.
The start of this jubilee year is also a moment of reflection for the future: the mandate of 5 years with general director Bert Schreurs is completed and Collegium Vocale Gent 2.0. is ready with a new structure.
In the context of rapidly changing subvention and policy goals, a limited staff with a flat structure is chosen in order to guarantee maximum attention to performance quality.
