Accademia Chigiana Siena | Aug 2009
Performances of major symphonic works not only demand a large orchestra, but very often also a huge choir. Since the quality of these sort of choirs is seldom satisfactory, conductor Philippe Herreweghe started a new initiative in an attempt to revive general attention for the 19th and 20th century oratorio repertoire. Together with the worldfamous Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and his own Collegium Vocale Gent Herreweghe recently kicked of a new and large symphonic choir on a European schale.
Under the name of Collegium Vocale Gent & Accademia Chigiana Siena the choir sofar has had performances of Mendelssohn's Elijah in Siena (IT), Saintes Festival (FR), Edinburgh International Festival (UK) and Rheingau Festival (GE).
